Grace Episcopal Church was founded in 1855 by members of Alexandria’s original parish, Christ Church, as a place where “all may come without regard for temporal estate, freely and without fee, as brethren come one to another.” It was a custom of the time for church members to pay a “pew tax,” so a place where one might worship freely by God’s Grace was a novel concept.
Grace Church has thrived for over 150 years and today embraces a growing parish family of more than 1,000 people. The original mission of Grace Church—the free gift of God’s grace available to all who seek it—remains constant to this day. At Grace Episcopal Church you will find a community of faith, called to worship and to serve Jesus Christ through the Eucharist, prayer, and personal care for our own parishioners, and for the needy in the surrounding community and the wider world.
