J2A Auction: Coming April 22

Don’t miss this year’s J2A Auction, to be held THIS Saturday, April 22nd in Merrow Hall, 6:00 – 9:00p.m.  Bring your friends and support our church’s youth pilgrimage to Italy!
Tickets are available at the door for $10 each, which includes a delicious Italian-themed catered dinner and free will bar.  You can also purchase separate raffle tickets to win a weekend trip to the luxurious Georgetown Fairmont Hotel, an Amazon Echo, and Nintendo Switch!  A copy of the auction item catalog—featuring really awesome items to bid on in every price range—is being distributed by email, or you can click on  the Auction Catalog to download a copy.  Here’s a peek at our fabulous auction items:

What is J2A?

Journey to Adulthood, or “J2A” is a two-year ministry program at Grace Church for youth who are completing middle school and beginning high school.  Sponsors help build the skills and critical thinking involved in adulthood, using Bible study, rites of passage, outreach ministries and other activities to underscore two guiding principles: (1) manhood and womanhood are free gifts from God; and (2) adulthood must be earned.  This ministry prepares youth for Confirmation and a pilgrimage.  The current J2A class has elected to encounter God through a pilgrimage to Italy, accompanied by their adult sponsors.  Their pilgrimage will involve visits to religious sites, historical and cultural exploration, and service.

What is the J2A Auction?

The J2A Auction provides a major source of funding for the pilgrimage, with a goal of raising $20,000 to help offset costs.  (Costs are expected to be $3,000 per person.)  It is also a fun fellowship activity for Grace Church.

When is the J2A Auction, where is it, and how can I attend?

The Auction will be held on Saturday, April 22, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Grace Church in Merrow Hall.  Tickets to attend the Auction cost $10 each, and they may be purchased at coffee hour on Sundays, or by contacting Lisa Medley.

What do people do at the J2A Auction?

This year’s J2A Auction will feature a catered dinner (served cocktail party style) and free will bar.  You can mingle and buy all the stuff that everyone has donated to support the cause of our church’s J2A pilgrimage!  The Auction is mostly silent, meaning you write your bid on a piece of paper near the item, but there will be some live auction items as well.

Here are some of the truly amazing items that will go to the highest bidder this year:

  • a brand new sterling silver ring and bracelet set from the Paloma Picasso Olive Leaf Collection for Tiffany & Co.
  • a week at a condo in Savannah, Georgia
  • a one minute sermon!
  • a tour of the National Gallery of Art led by a renowned former William & Mary art history professor;
  • “sign-on” parties: for a set price, you can sign up to attend a BBQ party, beer tasting, and others!

Will there be a raffle?

Yes!  This year, you may enter a raffle to win one of three three fantastic prizes (you choose which raffles you would like to enter): a weekend trip to the luxurious Georgetown Fairmont Hotel, an Amazon Echo, or a Nintendo Switch!  Raffle tickets are sold separately from tickets to the auction, and cost $10 each or three for $25.

How can I help?

Come to the J2A Auction (tickets are $10 each)!  Donate an item, service, gift certificate or basket to the Auction.  Refer a friend or company to donate or come to the Auction.

What sorts of things may I donate to the Auction?

Donations are anything you can donate that we can sell at the J2A Auction, alone or together as a package/basket with other items donated by other parishioners.  It can be anything from tickets to a sporting/cultural event, a bottle of wine, a gift certificate, or offer up a talent you have like cooking, gardening, or hosting a party.

How do I donate an item, service, or gift certificate to the J2A Auction?

Please fill out the donation form and follow the instructions.  Forms can also be found on the credenza outside the parish office, and the tract rack in the narthex.
