On Thursday, 24 February 2022, at 11 AM, Mother Anne and Bob Boyd will begin a study of First and Second Corinthians. Of all St. Paul’s epistles these are perhaps the best at describing not only timeless aspects of theology, but also the practical issues that beset churches everywhere. Paul had been run out of other towns and had a short, fruitless visit to Athens. Next was Corinth, a great city of the ancient world famous for debauchery and located on a major trade route, yet it was there that Paul had his most fruitful ministry. Even today Paul’s experience in Corinth has much to teach us.
All are welcome. No prior bible study experience is required. It will occur just before our healing service at noon Thursdays once that resumes. With COVID not yet in our rear-view mirror, the study will take place in the St, Mark Room if we can meet in person and also on Zoom. If we cannot meet face-to-face by 24 February, all of us will be on Zoom. Our study of First Corinthians will last until about Easter (17 April this year), then we’ll study 2nd Corinthians for about eight weeks. It is not necessary to attend each week. It will be easy to keep up with the book and handouts.
Our first study guide will be N. T. Wright’s Paul for Everyone: 1 Corinthians, available on Amazon for $15.79. Please email Bob at bobboyd020@gmail.com or call 703-973-7329 to sign up or to ask Bob to order a copy of the book for you.
