Welcome to Grace! Bienvenido a La Gracia!

To Love, Proclaim, and Serve God through

Amar, Proclamar y Servir a Dios a través de

  • life-giving liturgical worship
  • joyful community
  • empowering others

We live our mission through worship, in which lay adults, children and youth participate alongside our clergy.  Traditional, life-giving Eucharistic liturgy and fine music are hallmarks of worship at our parish, and we have weekly services in both English and Spanish.  We create a joyful community with a harvest of fellowship activities and events for all ages.  We empower and serve others through vital ministries, particularly around feeding the hungry.  Please explore our website to get to know us or, better yet, come visit!

This Sunday at Grace: January 28, 2018

Services this Sunday will be held at 7:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 5:00 p.m.

Guest Celebrant, Preacher
At our Festival Eucharist at 10:00 a.m., the Rt. Rev. Jim Mathes will be the Celebrant and Preacher.  Jim is now the Dean of Students at V.T.S.  He served as Bishop of San Diego from 2005 until last August when he moved to V.T.S.  He is a 1991 graduate of V.T.S. and served as a seminarian at Grace.  He has also served parishes in Massachusetts and Illinois.  We welcome Jim and his wife, Teri, back to Alexandria.

Candlemas Festival Eucharist
The Mass setting for the Feast of the Presentation (Candlemas) will be Mass No. 2 in G, D. 167 by Franz Schubert. It was composed in 1815 in less than a week. Although a more embellished orchestration of this Mass was discovered in the 1980’s (including trumpet and timpani parts), the version we will offer at the combined service is perhaps the most common with simple orchestration of string orchestra and organ.

Annual Meeting
Following the Festival Eucharist at 10:00, we will be holding our Annual Meeting in the auditorium.  We have a full agenda, including the election of new Vestry members.

Treats for the Annual Meeting
One guarantee to ensure great joy at the Annual Meeting: FOOD! Please bring brunch finger foods and deliver them to the auditorium of Merrow Hall before the service. Fellowship will make ham biscuits. Ideas of what to bring? Mini quiches, French toast sticks, fruit skewers, baked hash brown cups, veggies and dip, cheeses. Prizes awarded for liturgically themed treats. Bishops in a blanket? Questions? Contactashby.rushing@gracealex.org.

Childcare During Annual Meeting
There is no Sunday school during the Annual Meeting, but our youth will be supervising game rooms while the adults are in their meeting. All pre-school and school age children may report to their classrooms next week following the Candlemas service.

Hoagie Pre-Order
The EYC will be pre-ordering hoagies during Coffee Hour. This is your final opportunity to place your order. Pick-up is next Sunday, February 4. Hoagies will also be available to purchase on a first come, first serve basis.
